How does the Family Influence Self-Determination?
Home offers children the earliest opportunity to make choices, excercise control, and exhibit competence. Traditionally the
home has been the primary setting in which children learn to solve problems and make decisions, typically by watching their
parents and other valued adults.
Practically speaking, the home is where most people learn to set and attain goals, make decisions, and express preferences.
